Abstract/Contents:Discusses the impact of golf carts and other turf vehicles on turf wear. Suggests that the repeated stopping, starting, and turning of vehicles leads to turf injury, as well as the tread design of tires, that the carts also cause soil compaction, reducing the shoot growth rate and the recuperative potential of turfgrass, and that much more damage is caused by four-wheeled motorized golf carts than by golfers who choose to walk the course. Other variables, such as soil type and moisture levels, further impact wear stress. Advises that while newer designs of golf carts may reduce the overall impact on turf injury, each course should establish practical policies to reduce the damaging effects of golf carts.

Abstract
(Thanks to DTRF)
