Abstract/Contents:Presents research conducted by Texas A&M University to gain a better understanding of how temperature and light levels influence dwarf bermudagrass growth and development. Bermudagrass decline, a root disease of highly managed bermudagrass turf, often becomes more severe during prolonged cloudy and overcast conditions. The research aimed to develop strategies needed to hasten turf recovery. Tifeagle bermudagrass recovery from bermudagrass decline was enhanced by aerification, heavy topdressing, and aggressive fertilization using ammonium sulfate. Low light levels resulted in increased leaf and internode length, but temperature regulated expression of the dwarf growth habit. Raising the mowing height reduces mowing stress that may contribute to the severity of bermudagrass decline.
