| Abstract/Contents: | "Thirty-six traditionally constructed turf sports gounds were examined. The top turf layer was predominantly a cohesive soil. ..." In the trial, proctor density, sward, and water capacity of these sports grounds changed. "Sometimes, the stratification densities recorded were above 96 per cent. The values of the water permeability recorded were mostly below the minimum value of DIN 18035, page 4. As far as the water capacity is concerned, the upper level as determined in the standard, was partly surpassed. The trial reavealed [revealed] a connection between proctor density and development of the sward. This applies also to water capacity and stratification density. Based on the results of these experiments, a proposition was made how to prevent the densifying effect superficially when the ground is used by players, by maintaining the productivity of the carrying layers of turf of top soil. By this measure, the functioning effect in a technical respect when used by the players is to be improved and the cost of maintenance and care in proportion to the grounds constructed according to the standard is to be reduced. Further experimental results will be published at a later date." |
