Abstract/Contents:An endophyte is a plant living within another plant. In this case, it is a fungus that lives within the plants of various grass species. The fungus does not invade the cells of the plant, it lives in the spaces between the cells. The endophytic fungus in tall fescue has been identified as Acremonium coenophialum, formerly called Epicholoe typhina, and Lolium endophyte or Acremonium spp. for the perennial ryegrass endophyte. Discusses the use of endophytes in turf management to resist insect attack among other benefits, largely in a question and answer format.
