Abstract/Contents:" Studies were set up in the early summer of 1983 to study the effects of oxamide and melamine on growth rate, color and quality of putting turf. The experimental area consisted of Highland bentgrass putting turf established on a Puyallup fine sandy loam soil. A replicated completely randomized design with plots 5 ft. x 10 ft. were used. Phosphorus at 2 lb. P2O5 per 1000 ft/2 and potassium at 6 lb. K2O per 1000 sq. ft. were applied annually in split applications in the spring and fall. Total nitrogen application was applied at 6 lb. of N per 1000 sq. ft. annually applied at 2 lb. N rates in April, July and October or 3 lb. N rates in April and October. Granular applications of oximide and IBDU were hand applied to plot areas. Plots were rated monthly for color, turf quality and turfgrass phytotoxicity. The results of the experiment are discussed. The data suggested that melamine is an extremely slow-release N source which resulted in poor turfgrass color ratings during summer months. Oxamide produced consistently good growth with good color and turfgrass uniformity."
