Abstract/Contents:"Many people who buy turf seed do not know that it takes a long time and that a high input in breeding, seed production and seed improvement is required before high-value seed mixtures of high quality can be offered for sale on the market. This article describes the necessary requirements to assure the provision of turf seed mixtures of a sufficiently high quality which will meet the expectations of the buyer. Specially illustrated is the genetic quality ot [of] the varieties as they are influenced by the breeder as well as the parameters of the technical quality of the seed in seed production. Also presented are different methods of seed production, including special problems connected with the production of pure grass seed varieties and species. Reference is also made to the legal regulations for the certification of seed. But all the efforts made by the breeder, the provider of mixtures as well as the trade will not result in real success if the chain of quality is interrupted in only on place from the breeder to the client."
