| Abstract/Contents: | Tee design and construction encompasses many variables. The following is a list of considerations when designing or constructing a tee: size, positions, orientation, alignment, safety factors, management, seeding, slope surface, soils, and turfgrass selection. When considering size, five distinct teeing areas (men's long, men's regular, men's and women's forward tees, and a teeing position for seniors, beginners, and young juniors) should be available on a per hole basis. Sand bunkers are also an important design feature on a golf course. Sand bunkers must be constructed so as to present that necessary element of visibility to the oncoming golfer. Drainage in the bunker construction process is also a major consideration. Individual golf architects tend to have their own ideas regarding the size, shape, number and appearance of the sand bunkers on their own projects. |
