Abstract/Contents:Describes various environmental factors that negatively impact turfgrass plants. States that negative environmental factors "produce physiogenic disease [and] will in addition create conditions that predispose host plants to pathogenic microoganisms." Advises that "in order to avoid excessive moisture from irrigations: it is better to water during the early morning than in the late evening" to prevent grass infection and other grass diseases. Addresses several concerns including direct cold injury, toxic accumulation of gas under ice and heaving. Describes why it is important to apply fungicide "to protect the plant from further infections" instead of applying fungicides "after severe foliar blighting has occurred." States that "cultural practices, such as proper mowing, adequate fertilization, judicious and timely irrigation, and frequent aerifications, help prevent disease by maintaining a vigorously growing turf."
