| Abstract/Contents: | The appearance of a fungal disease upon a turf surface is of profound significance; not only are most fungi capable of rendering vast damage to turfgrass, all but destroying any fields playing capabilities, but an incorrect identification of the disease, with its subsequent misguided control methods can create as much if not more damage to the turf. To that end, a brief description of the influences that various conditions of climate, fertilization, irrigation and other mechanical maintenance have upon the most common fungal diseases is given, along with pictures showing the diseases at an advanced enough stage to allow for accurate identification. As the direct application of fungicides has only a limited effect even when applied to the correct fungus, the importance of preventive maintenance measures is stressed. |
