Abstract/Contents: | Discusses guidelines for golf course drinking water safety. States that "the majority of NGCOA [National Golf Course Owners Association] member courses are relying on bottled water or other alternatives...[but] for those electing to maintain coolers on the course, the NGCOA recommends very strict adherence to health and safety guidelines, such as those suggested by the CGSA [Canadian Golf Superintendents Association]." Details CGSA guidelines, including "following proper container cleaning instructions as per provincial environment ministry regulations"; "ensuring water dispensers are made of food grade materials, and spigots are gravity flow. To prevent contamination, both spigots and dispensers should be cleaned and sanitized every 24 hours"; "employees properly washing their hands before filling the containers. Hands must never come into contact with the container's water or ice"; "having a duplicate set of dispensers properly cleaned and stored in a santiry area for use the following day"; "ensuring the containers are filled with a reliable source of potable water that is in a food handling, sanitary area"; "keeping spouts and pouring mechanisms clean during transport of the containers. Staff handling them should follow proper food handling procedures"; and "placing drinking water dispensers in a tamper-proof setting to eliminate access to ice and water. Single-service cups and a waste receptacle should be provided." Also discusses possible alternatives to water containers, including bottled water or installing water fountains. |
