Abstract/Contents:Describes the difficulties in maintaining annual bluegrass in creeping bentgrass. Describes the herbicide Velocity, as a way to "control annual bluegrass population without causing significant injury to creeping bentgrass." Describes an experiment "conducted at the New Jersey Experimental Greenhouse Research Complex, New Brunswick, New Jersey." States that growth chambers with amounts of Velocity were developed and different chambers were allotted different temperatures, but the same amount of daylight. Results indicate that "Velocity treatments were affected by growth temperature..." Describes creeping bentgrass as "more sensitive to Velocity at cooler temperatures (50 F) (10 C) and more tolerant of it at higher temperatures (68 and 86 F) (20 and 30 C)". Concludes that "Velocity is the first herbicide to selectively control annual bluegrass in creeping bentgrass." Recommends that "Superintendents will achieve greater annual bluegrass control and minimal creeping bentgrass discoloration by applying Velocity at warmer temperatures (68-86 F [20-30])."
