Abstract/Contents:"This trial was conducted on a lawn at Woodman Horticultural Research Farm, Durham, NH. Each treatment was replicated three times, in 49-ft2 plots, using a RCB design. The grass was 3- inches long at time of applications (1 Jul), and was cut to 2.5 inches once a wk thereafter, or on an as-needed basis. All aqueous treatments were applied using a 7-ft boom on a bicycle-type sprayer. The boom was equipped with four 8005 flat-fan pattern spray nozzles, fitted with 50-mesh screens. The materials were delivered with CO2 pressure, at 40 psi. The vol of insecticide and water mix was 2 gal/1000 ft2. All granular treatments were applied using large salt shakers. Aqueous and granular treatments were hand-irrigated to approximately 0.2 inch. The local weather station was inoperable at time of applications; hence no 24 h precipitation data was available. The soil type was as follows: texture, sandy loam; sand, 55%; silt, 31%; clay, 14%; organic matter, 5.9%. Weather and soil conditions at time of treatment were as follows: sky, drizzle; wind, calm; air temp, 67° F; soil surface temp, 73° F; at 1-inch depth, 72° F; at 2-inch depth, 72° F; moisture, 27%; pH, 6.2. The trial was rated for live EC larvae on 23 Oct by cutting along the center of the plots with a Ryan sod cutter. The cutting blade was 12-inches wide, and the cut was 2-inches deep; 2 ft2 of turf per plot was folded back to sample the larvae. There were no differences among the chemical treatments and all were significantly different from the untreated check. All chemical treatments gave excellent control in this early Jul application."
