Abstract/Contents:The effect of light intensity and temperature on the growth of young plants of (a) Bromus unioloides cv. Una, (b) Lolium rigidum, (c) tall fescue cv. Sachalinskij and (d) perennial ryegrass cv. Lamora was studied in open-air conditions in N. German Democratic Republic in Apr.-Oct. 1974. NAR in all grasses was positively correlated with fluctuations of temperature and light, with higher maxima recorded during the summer in (a) and (b) than in (c) or (d) (65, 90, 28 and 26 mg/cm2, respectively). RGR in all grasses was positively dependent on light and temperature with higher maxima recorded in (a) and (b) than in (c) and (d) (85, 108, 80 and 82 mg/day, respectively). Growth of (d) was less sensitive to seasonal environmental change than that of (c). There was no evidence that LAR was dependent on light or temperature.
