| Abstract/Contents: | Methanol extracts of dried material of E. tetralix applied to seeds of (a) perennial ryegrass, (b) timothy, (c) red clover and (d) lucerne reduced percentage germination by 11, 34, 16 and 5% and length of the hypocotyl by 7, 20, 10 and 20 mm, resp. The aqueous extracts of E. tetralix reduced radicle length of (c) by c. 30%, using an amount equivalent to a plant of E. tetralix of 0.25 g DM. Chromatographic separation of the aqueous extract showed 2 zones with Rf of 0.0 to 0.6 and 0.8 to 1.0 which reduced radicle growth of (c). |
