| Abstract/Contents: | "Turf managers have a number of herbicide options for controlling winter annual weeds. Postemergence herbicides can be selected that will control various winter annuals (Table 1). Of the preemergence herbicides, simazine (Princep) and atrazine (Purge, AAtrex) provide the broadest control spectrum of winter annual weeds. Simazine and atrazine may also be applied as a postemergence treatment to small winter annuals. Pronamide (Kerb) may be used as a preemergence or postemergence treatment for the control of annual bluegrass, common chickweed, and corn speedwell. The remaining preemergence herbicides must be applied in the fall, prior to weed seed germination, to effectively control selected winter annual weeds." |
