| Abstract/Contents: | "Water or water-methanol extracts of "Citation" perennial rye (Lolium perenne) and Kentucky-31 tall fescue (Festuca arundinaceae) grasses exhibited growth inhibitory properties in lettuce seed bioassay. Separation of the extractives from rye grass yielded a number of substituted benzoic and cinnamic acids, flavonoids and adenosine. Mixtures of these compounds, rather than individual compounds, appear to be necessary for growth inhibition. A procedure for separation of phenolic compounds by normal phase HPLC on a cyano column is described." |
