Abstract/Contents:"Iron sulphate affected the moss most rapidly, as experimental findings proved. The moss turned black immediately after treatment, and this can disfigure the turf for a long time. However, the persistence of the effects of iron sulphate was unsatisfactory. The effect of sulphate of ammonia was slower. Results were satisfactory only during the main growth period and then only for so long as grass growth was being stimulated by the nitrogen. In autumn the moss was almost as plentiful again as before treatment. Also, the application of sulphate of ammonia is not without problems, for it may possibly scorch the turf. Road salt is unsatisfactory and may also scorch the sward. "Gesamoos" (Chloroxuron) had the most lasting effect against moss in the turf. However, it should be applied at not more than 0.6 g/m2, and in at least 100 ml of water. The grass sward must be dry for all these treatments, and also for the application of fertilizer."
