Abstract/Contents: | States that the "perception and understanding of the game" is a vital necessity to understanding the trends of golf architecture. Describes an ideal golf site as having "spectacular variations in elevation and contour interval, lakes, ponds, streams, rivers, sandy or loamy soils, open meadows, as well as the strong vertical strength of trees and sufficient usable acreage, usually about 200 acres." Discusses some of the trends that have perpetuated over the years and addresses some of the challenges found on many courses. |
