| Abstract/Contents: | "The growth of Penncross bent was studied for three years on eight sand blends of different particle sizes. Germination and establishment were both slower where particles smaller than 0.5 mm had been removed. Although water movement varied greatly between blends without turf, there were no differences after the first year when turf was present. Compaction reduced water movement in all cases. The conclusion reached is that although sands with high amounts of fines and a wide range of particle sizes are not ideal, the less desirable blends can be used to grow turf and the result after two or three years is not greatly different from those obtained with the recommended blends." |
