Abstract/Contents:"Turfgrasses are subject to rising amounts of salinity stress due to increased salinization of agricultural areas and the use of non-potable water sources as a method of turfgrass irrigation. Improving salt tolerance of turfgrasses is also important for conservation of fresh water. Plant tissue culture techniques have recently been employed to improve the genetic variability of plant tolerance to environmental stresses. The objective of this study was to determine whether in vitro bentgrass (Agrostis palustris), a cool-season turfgrass used widely on golf courses. This information is important for determining the feasibility of irrigating turfgrasses with non-potable water in a high salt environment. This study will also select salt tolerant plants that could be used as breeding materials."
