Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the use of corn gluten meal as an alternative to chemical herbicides. Describes how corn gluten meal works as a herbicide and discusses its effectiveness. Provides instructions on effective use of corn gluten meal and states that "timing is crucial... corn gluten meal needs to be applied when weed seeds are sprouting." Recommends timing spring application by when certain plants start to bloom. Discusses the health and environmental problems with using corn gluten meal as a herbicide; health risks include serious allergic reactions and environmental risks include adverse effects for animals because it is used as food for birds, mammals, and fish. Includes other uses that suppliers of corn gluten meal recommend and a website that provides a list of suppliers. Lists inert ingredients of corn gluten meal. Includes a list of recommendations for a health lawn that will make corn gluten meal more effective in herbicide control. |
