Abstract/Contents:Presents a study conducted by the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station at Rutgers University to "identify Kentucky bluegrass cultivars genetically resistant to billbugs." Details the materials and methods used in the study, stating that "billbug damage ratings were taken in August 1994 from two Kentucky bluegrass trials...The percent of damaged turf was visually estimated and a percentage of damage caused by billbugs was determined." Reports that "the majority of Mid-Atlantic ecotypes...exhibit vigorous growth...which could account for their moderately good resistance to, or recovery from, billbug feeding." Concludes that "the Kentucky bluegrasses differ genetically as well as in their tolerance to billbugs. There is also variability in billbug tolerance within ecotypes, which increases the difficulty of characterizing the tolerance of these grasses to this pest."
