| Question: | "The sulphur treatment advised was tried around our first green in early July. 1 oz. per sq. yd. as near as could be guessed was applied but recently yellowish-brown patches have formed. Do you think the sulphur was applied too heavily? What steps should be taken to restore the turf?" |

| Answer/Response: | "Tests on your sample show the pH values to have been reduced to 3.1 and 4.2 by the sulphur applied. The samples tested before treatment was recommended had pH values of 6.4 and 6.7. The considerable drop to the over acid state should not have occurred with the recommended rate of sulphur application. It would seem that the sulphur has been too heavily applied or that it was washed around by rain to give an excessive amount to local areas. The discoloured patches should be solid tine spiked and later dressed with ground carbonate of lime at 8 oz. per sq. yd." |
