| Question: | "The enclosed sample is waste matter from a disused lime works. We would like your comments on its suitability for incorporating it with compost for use as top dressing on our golf course. There are large quantities of the material available." |

| Answer/Response: | "Your sample has been tested in our laboratory and we find it to be "lime" in a very crude form. Under test the material dissolves to leave a residue of small stones. The material could be applied to over-acid sports turf (at a corrective rate) but it should not be used indiscriminately. To reduce the acidity too much would be undesirable. If you have any sports turf, e.g., golf fairways, that you suspect of being over acid we will gladly carry out analysis of samples and inform you how much of the "lime" should be applied. The "lime" could be used on agricultural land and some local farmers might be interested." |
