Question:"A black "fungus" has developed on one of our greens and we send you a turf sample of it. The condition appeared after weeks of wet weather. We would be interested to hear your suggested methods of control."
Answer/Response:"Our biologist has inspected your sample and finds one of the blue green alga present. Its spread will have been favoured by the wet season and the alga usually occurs where there is drip from overhanging branches or where the soil surface is sealed. Control is best achieved with a sulphate of iron solution. 1 oz. in 1 gal. of water to 2 sq. yd. of turf will be satisfactory. The application should be made with a rosed watering can. Spiking of the turf surface will also help."
