Question:"We wish to apply lead arsenate to our greens to control worms but as sheep graze the course it is difficult to apply the wormkiller at the best time. The sheep will be off the course until mid-March. Would lead arsenate applied in early March prove effective and how soon after application will it be safe to graze the land?"
Answer/Response:"Lead arsenate is poisonous to sheep and great care is necessary to prevent harm resulting. You should use lead arsenate when the sheep are not on the course. They should remain off until the lead arsenate has been washed off the grass and into the soil. The alternative is temporarily to fence treated areas. Sheep should not be allowed access to grass mowings contaminated with lead arsenate."
