| Question: | "We are having trouble with clover on our fairways and there is also a lot of the enclosed weed. Would you recommend a spray to deal with these weeds?" |

| Answer/Response: | "The weed specimens have been examined. The one with the white flower is wild white clover (Trifolium repens) and the smaller one with the yellow flower is yellow suckling clover (Trifolium dubium). The latter weed is an annual which is tap-rooted and forms rosettes whereas the wild white clover is perennial and spreads by surface runners. Both plants are resistant to selective weedkillers. On greens hand weeding of the yellow suckling clover should be carried out but this would be impracticable on fairways unless the weed is localised. Spraying with selective weedkiller can be done to reduce both weeds but 2 or 3 applications during the season would be necessary. An M.C.P.A. selective weedkiller should be used." |
