Question:"Parts of the course are suffering severely from leather-jackets. DDT has been used in the past as a control. We wonder if you have information on any recent developments in dealing with this pest on fairways and greens?"
Answer/Response:"DDT is still widely used for controlling leather-jackets either as a powder or as an emulsion. ½ oz. per sq. yd. of 5% DDT dust will give efficient control. In liquid form 1 gallon of 30% DDT emulsion or 2 gallons of 15% DDT emulsion is sufficient to treat one acre. A new material for controlling leather-jackets is based on Aldrin. A suitable rate of application is 2 pints per acre of 30% miscible Aldrin."
