Question:"For the past week or two our pitch has been covered with fine spiders' webs which when covered with dew or catching the sunlight appear as a layer of frost. We have been plagued with small spiders during the summer. Secondly the grass on the pitch tends to be rather yellowish in colour. Will you advise us on any corrective measures necessary?"
Answer/Response:"You can take it that the spiders are completely harmless but they are responsible for the gossamer webs which show up in the sunlight or when covered with dew. The yellowness of the grass concerns us. This is due mainly to lack of air because of the very wet season and more spiking (aeration) should be carried out. Further, a dressing of fine bone meal at 4 cwt. to the whole pitch might help to improve the colour."
