Abstract/Contents:"Establishment of turf on roadsides requires the use of adapted plant materials together with any environmental modifications which will enhance seed germination and seedling development. Common bermudagrass usually is seeded in eastern Texas, and a mixture of native grasses is used in drier regions. Mulching, in both the humid and the drier regions of Texas, promotes establishment. The characteristics of hay and asphalt mulches will be reviewed together with their effects on seedling emergence and establishment. Tillage, in any except very sandy soils, favors establishment, but the optimum depth of tillage has not been determined."
