Abstract/Contents:Discusses using green speed as "a tangible method for superintendents to not only achieve the recognition they deserve, but to also establish a benchmark by which to measure performance." Also discusses golfer involvement in determining the ideal green speed and profiles Mike Morris of Crystal Downs Country Club in Frankfort, Michigan and his experience using golfer input to determine ideal green speed. States that "to determine the ideal green speed, Morris started by: taking daily green speed measurements from two greens every day at 7 a.m. and 2:30 p.m."; "surveying golers at the end of their round by giving them a card that asked them to indicate whether they thought the speeds were too slow, slow/okay, okay, fast/okay or too fast." Concludes that "no matter which way you choose, whether it is using the above mentioned website, your own spreadsheet or a pencil, loose leaf paper and a calculator, you should consider the potential benefits of determining your golf course's ideal greens speed and managing your greens to stay within that range. It clearly offers you a quantifiable way to measure your success."
