Question:"Following our earlier correspondence on the control of woodrush I received your letter which included recommendations on corrective fertilizer treatments for my lawns. You did not actually mention woodrush, the weed that is bothering us. Is the soil condition conducive to the growth of woodrush as I assume the lime treatment and fertilizer dressings you advise will help reduce its spread."
Answer/Response:"We are sorry that we did not explain the relationship between the soil fertility of your lawn and the presence of woodrush. This weed does thrive in acid soils and the application of lime we have advised for your lawn will help check the weeds spread by reducing the acidity. At the same time, as a slightly acid condition is desirable for maintaining satisfactory composition of the grass we would not expect the woodrush to die out as a result of the lime dressing. The only positive method of killing woodrush is by hand weeding which is rather difficult. Regular use of selective weedkiller would help reduce the weed. A material containing CMPP should be used at a rate of 1 pint to 1,200 sq. yd."
