| Question: | "We are considering having a lake dredged and thought of using the silt for top dressing, but have been advised against this. We are told that the silt might contain weed seeds. We have no sample of the silt at present. Can you advise us generally on the use of the silt." |

| Answer/Response: | "Silty material from a pond is not in general to be regarded as suitable for top dressing greens, or tees for that matter. If some constructional work is being done a small amount could be worked into the surface soil but the fine particles and slimy nature of the material makes it rather unsuitable. There is always the risk of weed seeds as well." |
