| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses changes in the fertilizer industry, including decreased supply and increases in price. States that "these changes will have a marked influence on golf course management, both for [1975] and for many years to come." Mentions a United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization conference that discussed "the problems of hunger and famine in the world...The...conference also focused attention on the world fertilizer crisis which is having a direct effect on the production of food." Describes how this food shortage and increased need for fertilizer in food production will affect fertilizer use for nonfarm fertilizers. States that "fertilizer for home lawns, parks and cemeteries amounts to less than five per cent of all fertilizer produced and that golf courses use less than one per cent." Concludes that "the superintendent's fertilizer management program becomes even more important in the light of inflated prices and limited supplies." |
