| Question: | "We propose to lift and relay two greens each year to get rid of the fibre mat which is beneath the surface. Our idea was to relay fresh turf but now we think the present turf can be relaid when the fibre mat is removed. We would be obliged to have your opinion on this." |

| Answer/Response: | "We understand your plan to relay two greens each year, but are of opinion that lifting and relaying is not justified solely to remove the fibre unless you propose to use the opportunity to alter the features of the greens. If it is solely a question of checking fibre development then this can be done by enthusiastic aeration, adequate top dressing and by regular light scarification during the growing season. If you decide to relay your greens we certainly feel the original turf should be used in preference to untreated virgin turf." |
