| Question: | "Several hundred people trespass on the local golf course which has steep north slopes and is, therefore, in a suitable condition for these activities when there is any snow. Do you think this is harmful?" |

| Answer/Response: | "Providing a good cover of snow exists over the whole of the golf course ski-ing and sledging cause no real direct damage to fairways. When the snow becomes packed, however, it is likely to take longer to thaw than normal and, therefore, the use of the course for golf may be hindered. If the grass is only partially covered with snow and bare ground is frozen the traffic will most likely damage the grass. The time when serious damage is most likely is when the thaw has partially softened the ground surface." |
