Question: | "The enclosed grub was found on a green at Muirfield. Last winter the course was constantly visited by pheasants and crows. The crop of a shot pheasant was found to be full of these grubs. Could you identify it?" |
Answer/Response: | "The grub is a member of a large family of caterpillars which are commonly called cutworms. Some of these are known to feed on grass and their roots. If control is desired it can be achieved simply by dusting the areas where the grubs are present with a 5% DDT dust at ½ oz. per sq. yd." |
