Question:"During the summer puff balls grew on our tennis courts. Should we do anything about them?"
Answer/Response:"The puff balls are the fruiting bodies of a fungus (Lycoperdon spp.) which lives in the turf and though they are a nuisance they do not cause damage to the turf itself. The usual symptoms in the turf simply consist of green rings or bands which seem to come and go as the years go by. The fungus is not very easy to control but one of the mercurial fungicides may be tried. The affected areas should first be thoroughly spiked and then treated with the fungicide."
