| Question: | "We enclose the draft of our specification, bill of quantities and site plan relating to the construction of one of our school playing fields. These are based on the report and outline specification provided by you following your inspection of the site and we would appreciate your comments on the suitability of the documents." |

| Answer/Response: | "We have studied the specification, bill of quantities and drawing and find them generally satisfactory though the following points are made: 1. An item indicating when the playing field contractor will be expected to start and complete work has not been included in the specification. We suggest you insert the following item under the heading "Scope of Work". "The contractor will take possession of the site on the 1 March, 1959 and must start active work within fourteen days of this date. All specified work and the seeding shall be completed by the end of August, 1959". 2. Your intention that the playing field contractor should use surplus excavations from the school site in completing the grading work on the playing field is satisfactory but we wonder whether these materials will be available when he requires them. We would expect the playing field contractor to need the surplus sub-soil around the end of April. Perhaps you would check that it will be available by this time. Regarding the site drawing. We have slightly altered the pitch layout, i.e. we have positioned the running track so that the 100 yd. straight can be sited on level ground. The long jump has also been moved so that it is on level ground. In the case of the high jump, to get a level area, a slight cut will be required across its width. We trust these points are clear." |
