Question:"We enclose a sample of an organic fertilizer that has been recommended to us for general use on greens, tees, etc. We would be pleased if you will report on this before we obtain it."
Answer/Response:"We have examined the sample and it appears to be a form of dried sewage, in fact it may be solely this. The analysis indicated that the material contains less than 1% of lime and from this point of view it is satisfactory. All dried sewage contains a low percentage of nitrogen and only fractional amounts of phosphate and potash. As regards use, normally it is best not to apply dried sewage alone but to mix it with soil and sand to form an artificial compost. A light application of up to 4 oz. per sq. yd. dried sewage mixed with screened soil and sand might be applied to your greens now but no greater amount should be used."
