| Question: | "We propose to relay some of our greens next year and would like your opinion as to how long cut turf can be prepared and stored before actual laying begins. If the turf was cut in the spring or early summer would it still be in a good condition for autumn relaying?" |

| Answer/Response: | "It would not be desirable or practical to lift turf in the spring and preserve it in a satisfactory condition for relaying in the following autumn. You would find that apart from maintenace difficulties the turf would deteriorate in quality. Turf should really be cut, lifted and then relayed with the shortest possible time between the operations. We suggest, therefore, that the work be carried out in the autumn when the new surfaces are ready to receive the turf." |
