| Question: | "It has been suggested that applications of sulphate of ammonia, included in your recommended dressings, are likely to aid the development of Fusarium disease and we should be grateful to have your views on this statement as we are most anxious to avoid the ravages of the disease." |

| Answer/Response: | "We do not agree that applications of sulphate of ammonia during the growing season will encourage development of Fusarium patch disease. It is common practice to apply nitrogen in the form of sulphate of ammonia and the only danger that arises is when applications are made too late in the year. You will see that the last seasonal dressing we recommended was for mid-August. It should be appreciated that all intensively managed turf is susceptible to Fusarium disease particularly during moist, muggy weather and in the autumn and winter months. You should endeavour to carry out control measures immediately first signs of Fusarium are noticed so as to prevent damage." |
