| Question: | "At the end of May we levelled, pre-fertilized and seeded a portion of ground on which we had been tipping for the last three years. Now that the grass has appeared it is infested with weeds of all types. Would you advise us how we can eradicate the weeds." |

| Answer/Response: | "Weeds in a spring sown grass sward are mainly annual species which disappear after mowing is started, in fact, even if there is not much grass to mow it is sometimes desirable to go over the surface at a height of cut of about 2 in. to mow off the weeds thus giving the grass a chance. As regards perennial weeds, in view of the dry weather experienced it is likely that the grass will not be very robust and we suggest that spraying with selective weedkiller would be best left until the sward is more strongly established." |
