Abstract/Contents:Announces that "a proposal that would have weakened certification and training requirements for prospective lawn and ornamental pest control licensees in Florida was defeated" in 2006. Explains that the amendment to Florida HB 7075/SB 1388 was withdrawn "when members of the Florida Pest Management Association, the National Pest Management Association (NPMA), the Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) and others went into action." States that "one of the arguments behind the proposed lowered standards is many of the chemicals being sprayed can be purchased over-the-counter at hardware stores. The bills' proponents argue that if people can buy them for their own homes, then gardeners and other landscapers should be able to use them as well." Concludes that "there is a difference once a person starts applying the chemicals on other people's property. When [a contractor is] performing a service commercially and professionally, [he] should have to meet certain minimal qualifications."
