Question:"We are a large Local Authority with plans, in association with private enterprise, to construct a major sports complex with facilities for both indoor and outdoor sports. We need advice on up-to-date construction techniques for winter games pitches which can take a lot of play to ensure that the outdoor facilities are financially viable."
Answer/Response:"The Institute has considerable knowledge of the problems of playing field drainage and construction based on research and practical experience over many years. Advice on drainage and construction of new sports turf areas, from bowling greens and soccer pitches to multiple sports grounds, is very much part of our business. Most of those contemplating a major scheme will wish to consider and discuss the implications in some detail before committing themselves to going ahead. To fulfil this requirement we offer a Feasibility Study service which gives a preliminary technical appraisal of projected new drainage or construction schemes. Such a study will cover an initial site inspection and discussion of requirements and practicalities, confirmed in a written report which will include an estimate of cost, outline timetable and suggested contract procedure. If the project is approved the Institute can be appointed as Consultant-in-Charge of the construction and drainage work. This service covers everything from preparation of Contract documents, Bills of Quantities, detailed Specification for drainage, cultivations, soil amendment, establishment and drainage plans, to putting the work out to tender by contractors and supervising the work when in progress. Local Authorities, and other parties, can make use of these Institute services to ensure that facilities are constructed to the highest of modern standards at competitive prices."
