| Question: | "Members feel that our present gang units are not doing a satisfactory job on the hockey pitch. Do you advise purchase of a motor mower?" |

| Answer/Response: | "You have five hockey pitches and whether these are cut by gangs or by motor mower depends largely on whether you have sufficient staff. Motor mowing with removal of cuttings is best but takes more time than cutting with gangs. Most gang mowers can be set to mow as low as ½ in. which should produce a suitable surface for hockey provided other operations e.g. restoration of the surface levels are given sufficient attention. In general we would think you are better using gang mowers for most of the mowing on the grounds of economy but if a large motor mower were also available for use on special occasions this would be the ideal." |
