| Abstract/Contents: | Profiles "trays designed to speed the manual separation of the sexes" of Japanese beetles. Details the characteristics of the trays used to sort the insects and explains that "after several thousand beetles are placed in the holding compartment, their movement down the tray is regulated by the height of the opening of the door and by the degree of slope of the tray." Reports that "500,000 beetles were sexed...[and] the average for the entire season was 5060." Concludes that while records from previous trials were not available, the sorting trays approximately enabled beetles to be sorted "4 to 5 times more rapidly." |
