Abstract/Contents:Discusses the impact of Hurricane Ivan along golf courses on the Gulf Coast. States that "as of late November [2004], four golf courses in the Pensacola, [Florida], area remained closed because of damage caused by Ivan, which made landfall [September] 16 [2004] in Gulf Shores as a Category 3 hurricane with winds of 130 mph [miles per hour]." Describes damage at several courses and states that "even at golf courses that managed to reopen within days or weeks after the storm passed, business during the winter golf season will suffer as loding remains in a state of repair...[and] catastrophic weather throughout Florida was blamed for the dramatic drop in September rounds played, off 32.8 percent compared with the same month in 2003." Concludes that "while it's going to be tough on some courses that remain closed, like those in the Panhandle, it represents an opportunity for other courses in Florida...most people are not changing patterns for playing golf in Florida in the winter. They are merely finding other places to play."
