Abstract/Contents:"A homeowner rotary spreader incorporating a deflector that can be rotated around the right side of the impeller to limit discharge on the right side of the pattern has recently been introduced. This spreader allows normal rotary operation in large, open areas of turfgrass, and also allows operation close to buildings, sidewalks, driveways, and flower beds without throwing granules into non-turf areas. Testing of this spreader showed that performance in the normal operating mode is similar to other homeowner rotary spreaders. The deflector was effective at cutting off spread to the right, but the pattern tapered rather than dropping off sharply. There was no peak in the pattern due to the deflector. A flap on the deflector was effective at reducing delivery rate to match the reduced swath width."
