| Abstract/Contents: | Stresses that "it is essential that comprehensive testing is undertaken to determine the water's suitability and to understand any management implications for its use" in turf irrigation. Discusses what to check for including salinity, bicarbonate and carbonate, chloride and chlorine, boron, pH, nitrogen and phosphorus, and iron, sulphur, and water hardness. Provides several stategies to "assist with minimising [minimizing] the negative effects of using low quality water" including "blending (diluting) with good quality water"; "alternating irrigations with better quality water"; and "regular surface and subsurface aeration to improve soil drainage." Concludes that "regular testing of irrigation water during the season is essential as its quality may vary." |
